This "Spooky Creative Writing Lesson on Plot Structure" is the perfect activity for your students the day of Halloween (because we all know that day can get wild!).

In this activity, all your students will need besides the provided slides and worksheet is a blank sheet of paper and a writing utensil.

Students will be co-authors of their own spooky story and will start off writing their story's exposition. When the timer on the slide is up, students will move to the seat next to them to continue writing their peer's story's inciting incident. The process will repeat until each student has written each element of a story's plot structure (exposition, inciting incident, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution).

Then, students will return to their original story, read it independently to see how it turned out, and then will get to share their stories out loud in small groups to see who had the spookiest story.

Finally, students will be given the printed worksheet to complete the plot structure graphic organizer from their spooky story.

This lesson is a fun and spooky way to go over plot structure, especially if you're in the middle of a novel unit and want to give students a break!
