This “Creative Writing: Holiday Story” is a complete lesson with easy to follow slides and a printable plot structure worksheet.
In this activity, students will begin writing the exposition of their own holiday story. When the timer is up on the slides, students will move to the seat next to them to continue writing their peer's story and will create the inciting incident. The process will repeat until each student has written each element of a story's plot structure (exposition, inciting incident, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution).
Then, students will return to their original story, read it independently to see how it turned out, and then will get to share their stories out loud in small groups to see who had the best holiday story.
Finally, students will be given the printed worksheet to complete the plot structure graphic organizer from their holiday story.
This lesson is a fun and joyful way to go over plot structure, especially if you're in the middle of a novel unit and want to give students a break!
